Running Back Rankings

Last Updated: December 31, 2012

Welcome to the Rankings Pages.  We hope you like the new look of the website. In addition to our site re-design, we've opted to give our Player Rankings a fresh new look as well.  Moving away from conventional style rankings lists, we have transitioned to a Tiered ranking format.  This conversion has been made for a number of Dynasty specific reasons.  First, every Dynasty league has unique characteristics with player valuations that remain league specific.  Tiered Rankings add clarity to this inherent variability.  Second, players separated by Tiers provides an improved mechanism to appropriately define and compare player values from a Dynasty perspective.  Each Tier includes a description and brief player analysis.  It is important to note that players within each Tier typically share similar long-term outlook and are ranked in order within their respective tiers. Let's get into the RB's:

Beast Tier - While RB's are the biggest injury risks in the game, the Beast tier is the upper echelon of the position. They are key components of a high powered fantasy offense and just entering their primes. The Dynasty price tag on an elite RB is extremely high, especially as they dwindle in numbers.

LeSean McCoy (Eagles)
Arian Foster (Texans)
Ray Rice (Ravens)
Franchise Tier - These RB's are high scoring threats that you can build your backfield around. All have the ability to produce RB1 numbers and potentially finish as the top RB in a given season.

Trent Richardson (Browns)
Jamaal Charles (Chiefs)
C.J. Spiller (Bills)
Doug Martin (Bucs)
Adrian Peterson (Vikings)
Matt Forte (Bears)

Darren McFadden (Raiders)

RB1 Production For Now - The carries are piling up and they may only have a few more elite seasons left. If you are rebuilding, now is the time to move on and get younger.

Marshawn Lynch (Seahawks)
Maurice Jones-Drew (Jaguars)
Chris Johnson (Titans)
High Upside Committee Back Tier - Lots of potential here for a jump to the Cornerstone Tier. These RB's are all young and have intriguing fantasy skillsets. The time to acquire is now before their stock continues to rise with more playing time.
Ryan Mathews (Chargers)
DeMarco Murray (Cowboys)
Stevan Ridley (Patriots)
Alfred Morris (Redskins)
Jonathan Stewart (Panthers)
David Wilson (Giants)
Lamar Miller (Dolphins)
Ben Tate (Texans)
Vick Ballard (Colts)
Mikel LeShoure (Lions)
Bryce Brown (Eagles)
Ronnie Hillman (Broncos)
Robert Turbin (Seahawks)
Mark Ingram (Saints)
Jonathan Dwyer (Steelers)
Seasoned Veteran Tier- Some are starters, some are committee backs, but all veterans with a cap on their fantasy upside. Don't gloss over this Tier as hasbeen talent, but be careful not to invest too much in Dynasty leagues without handcuffing their high upside understudies (if applicable). For example, everyone knows Steven Jackson is on his last legs, but if you are able to also acquire Isaiah Pead, the situation becomes much brighter from a Dynasty perspective.
Reggie Bush (Lions)
Darren Sproles (Saints)
Rashard Mendenhall (Cardinals)
Frank Gore (49ers)
Steven Jackson (Falcons)
Chris Ivory (Saints)
Ahmad Bradshaw (Free Agent)
DeAngelo Williams (Panthers)
Benjarvis Green-Ellis (Bengals)
Knowshon Moreno (Broncos)
Michael Bush (Bears)
Peyton Hillis (Chiefs)
Shonn Greene (Titans)
Isaac Redman (Steelers)
Fred Jackson (Bills)
Rashad Jennings (Jaguars)
Kevin Smith (Lions)
Michael Turner (Free Agent)

Committee Production Tier - These are backs part of a committee but given the opportunity, could provide Flex stats with the future of an RB2. Most are limited by their skillset or injury concerns, but all have solid Dynasty value.
Andre Brown (Giants)
Isaiah Pead (Rams)
Darryl Richardson (Rams)
Kendall Hunter (49ers)
Chris "Beanie" Wells (Free Agent)
Alex Green (Packers)
Joique Bell (Lions)
Roy Helu (Redskins)
Daniel Thomas (Dolphins)
LeGarrette Blount (Bucs)
Toby Gerhart (Vikings)
Donald Brown (Colts)
James Starks (Packers)
Ryan Williams (Cardinals)
Jahvid Best (Lions)
Felix Jones (Cowboys)
Prospect Tier - Whether you own the lead back in the situation, these backs are worth rostering as more than deep fliers. They have talent to emerge as viable fantasy threats if given the opportunity. Intriguing talent from top to bottom, these RB's are Dynasty buys if the price is right.
Shane Vereen (Patriots)
Jacquizz Rodgers (Falcons)
LaMichael James (49ers)
DuJuan Harris (Packers)
Taiwan Jones (Raiders)
Brandon Bolden (R-Patriots)
Cyrus Gray (Chiefs)
Evan Royster (Redskins)
Bilal Powell (Jets)
Mike Goodson (Jets)
Shaun Draughn (Chiefs)
Joe McKnight (Jets)
Delone Carter (Colts)
Javon Ringer (Titans)
Dion Lewis (Browns)
Baron Batch (Steelers)
Mario Fannin (Broncos)
